Timber Alternative Windows

Timber alternative windows retain the look and feel of traditional timber, whilst benefitting from all the advantages of uPVC. The style that we offer has been handcrafted and tailor-made using only the finest materials to produce great quality windows that are difficult to distinguish from real timber.

Residence 9 timber alternative windows replicate traditional 19th century windows through careful consideration to the documented historical window design from the period.  The window design brief aligns to the key principles, shapes and dimensions from the Article 4 Conservation Area guidelines and the traditional jointing and flush sash exterior both maintain the kerbside appearance.  Each window section has 9 chambers and is 100mm wide ensuring modern energy efficiency and U-values of 0.8, when triple glazed.  There are wood grain foils and colour shades available to suit a range of architectural periods; 17th Century windows were Oak and unpainted, whilst 19th Century windows were always painted.

Advantages and features of Timber Alternative Windows

Available in a wide range of colours and shades to suit different architectural periods and all designed to replicate a timber look (Check out possible colours and finishes) or, if you prefer to have a specific colour then you can also tailor your finish to be from the RAL chart of colours.

With a traditional and elegant flush exterior, coupled with leaded or glazing bar effect, these windows can transform any home to look as though have the original timber windows.

Because of its durability, uPVC looks better for longer. It’s easy to clean and keeps the colour and doesn’t need repainting every few years, as with timber.

The R9 timber alternative has the best thermal properties that are achievable on the market, using uPVC.

Authentic hardware is also featured as part of this style and is hand forged for the creation of traditional period aesthetics.

More information on our range of timber alternative windows can be found in the Residence 9 Brochure here.

Finally, to further support the claim that these windows are the closest possible match to the original windows, please see the diagram below which shows the mirroring of the sizes that have been historically documented and equally, included in many Article 4 planning guidelines.

Our Range of Materials

uPVC

uPVC (sometimes written PVC-U) is a frame made out of Polyvinyl Chloride plastic. It is the most widely used material for window frames nowadays for very good reasons.

Aluminium

Aluminium is very versatile and all frames are thermally broken so condensation cannot travel through the metal. We always supply “A” rated glazing as standard.

Timber

Although timber is more expensive than other materials, some would say that the advantages it offers are priceless.
